A Bus in Short Tract?

Allegany County Transit (ACT) is now providing regular fixed routes on weekdays. Traveling within those routes will cost $1.00 each way, 50 cents for those of age 60 or over. Our bus stop is the Short Tract General Store, with departing times at 8:01 AM, 10:17 AM, 3:26 PM, and 5:40 PM. You need to call 24 hours in advance. The numbers are 268-5860 or 1-800-284-2415. For $3.00 one way, someone can come to your door and deliver you to your exact destination. Again, 24-hour notice is required. If you live within three-quarters of a mile from the General Store, you can arrange for the bus to come to your home. This service will cost $2.00.

There are five different routes which start at Belmont and travels up Rt. 19, makes a stop in Rushford, travels back to Rt. 19 to Fillmore, over to Short Tract, down to Angelica, and back to Belmont. If you wish to cross over to another route, this can also be arranged with 24-hour notice. The cost is $3.00 one way. While there are designated stops on all routes, you can always flag down a bus and they will stop for you.

The Volunteer Transportation Program is still in existence for those of age 60 or over who are able to walk. This service is through the Office For the Aging, and should be called at 268-9390 two days in advance.

Short Tract Fire CO. News

The Short Tract Fire Company was busy last year, responding to 32 fire calls and 27 EMS calls.

In February Tm Voss conducted a tour of the Fire Hall and gave a fire prevention lesson for the short Tract Preschool. The children learned about Stop, Drop and Roll, knowing two ways of escape from every room, and other safety factors in addition to seeing the equipment and trucks.

Assessor's News

All property owners will soon be receiving a letter from our Assessor regarding the transition to full value assessment. This full assessment will become official as of May 1, 2000, but won’t be used to determine taxes until September 1, (school taxes), and January 1, 2001, (county and town taxes.) There will be opportunity to discuss your assessment between March 6 through 10, by appointment with Duane who can be reached at xxx-xxxx,
